Bangkok: River Books, 1997. First edition.. A fine (as new) copy.. Pp. 181; 263 color photographs. Original color pictorial stiff wrappers, sm 4to. The author has devoted himself to studying the extraordinary stories in the bas-relief of Angkor. He gives clear explanations of the legends that lie behind each scene, identifying the main features of each narrative and locating all of the major reliefs in Cambodia which may be easily visited. It was not only the gods, the Buddha or the epics of the Hindus that were glorified at sites such as Angkor Wat and the Bayon, but also the wars and battles of kings, giving a unique insight into the lives of the Khmer people (from the rear cover). No ownership marks and no signs of use.
