Inscribed first printing of this uncommon Kewpie adventure, in which the adorable little ones are enlisted to find a lost baby mouse - with original drawing of a small feathered wing. Rose O'Neill's Kewpies were "most widely known cartoon character until Mickey Mouse" (Historic Missourians), and brought her tremendous financial success. This is an uncommon title among her numerous Kewpie works, made even more special by her inscription and drawing. 8'' x 5.75''. Original red cloth boards. Orange endpapers. Creator of the Kewpie comic strip, and the inventor of the Kewpie doll, O'Neill was also the first published female cartoonist in the U.S. and active in the women's suffrage movement. Small (original) price stamp rear flyleaf, slight play in text block, and light crown wear; a very good copy in a good, edge-chipped dust jacket with some tearing at mid-spine.
