About This Item

Sand Springs, Oklahoma: Kerr Glass Manufacturing Corp., 1948. Staplebound. Color illustrated wraps. Near fine. 56 pages. 24 x 17 cm. 6 pages. 24 x 17 cm. This edition of the Kerr company's canning book features a letter (and photo) of Ruth Kerr, the president of Kerr Glass Manufacturing Co.
OURS IS A GREAT HERITAGE, YOURS AND MINE... For we stand first in line as our country's greatest singe asset - the American Homemaker. Again we gladly shoulder the responsibilities of our heritage, for this year we are being asked to be not only Homemakers, we ar being asked to join the great forces of our Government in its program of world world nutrition. As American Homemakers we have been invited to represent america in this urgent world crisis, but our conference table will be in the kitchens of our homes, where each gleaming jar of canned fruit and vegtables is our contribution to our country's Blueprint for World Security.
Ruth became the youngest female president of a glass firm at the age of 36 in 1931 when her husband Alexander died. The Kerr company is best known for being producers of several kinds of fruit jars used for home canning. Their slogan: You "CAN WITH CONFIDENCE" when you use Kerr Quality Fruit Jars and Kerr Caps and Lids, never fail when foods are properly sterilized. This pamphlet is "filled to the brim" with instructions, recipes, and helpful hints. Illustrated in color and black and white throughout. Lightly rubbed at edges, otherwise pristine.
