When novelist and scriptwriter James Kennaway died in 1968 at the age of forty,he and his wife Susan were as close as they had ever been during their remarkable marriage, though a few years before she admits she had despised him deeply. In 1963 James met David,a young novelist, whose company he described to his wife with even more than characteristic enthusiasm.Jame compulsively played with people's lives - particularly the lives of those close to him.In playing with Susan's and David's,the one thing he never dreamed was that they would fall in love with one another. When a revealing half-written letter was found,James flew into a rage and sped off to Italy with all the money at hand, leaving Susan and their children up an Austrian mountain. He was not a man of half-measures.The letters and telegrams which followed suggest an orgy of anguish, recrimination in the guise of understanding and passion. They are also astonishingly beautiful.Susan Kennaway was right in judging that some of husband's finest writing is to be found in his notebooks, diaries and letters. In bringing many extracts from these together and ordering them as only she could know how they should be,in linking and shaping the book with her own record of events, she has brought forth an exceptionally compelling story of emotional entanglement. For David did not just disappear from either of their lives.A night lay ahead for the three of them at an Austrian railway station which would haunt them for years. Each member of the triangle was obsessed with the other two - and none was more obsessed than James with himself. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template, altering it's prices, weight allowances, dimensions and lowered it's qualifying compensation rates too!
