Washington, D.C.: For the compiler, 1882. xx,250pp. plus two folding maps (the frontispiece map lacking the lower half). Original publisher's cloth, front cover and spine gilt. Spine faded, covers slightly soiled. One map lacking bottom half. Internally clean. A good copy. A guidebook to Washington D.C. which was updated with corrections as of January 1882. The handbook consists of information on Washington and the District of Columbia, public buildings and grounds, places of general interest, the surrounding area, and a history of the city. Practical information for visiting the city, including general amusements and "etiquette, ceremonies, and formalities" is also provided. The work is illustrated throughout with wood-engravings depicting views, buildings, interiors, and statues. Keim was also the author of SKETCHES OF SAN DOMINGO and SHERIDAN'S TROOPERS ON THE BORDERS.
