The Franklin Library's Limited Edition of "Kalki," Vidal's 24th novel in a long, distinguished career as an American man of letters is the true first edition, first printing, of this work about an ex-GI from New Orleans, a chemical-biological warfare expert in Vietnam, who appears in Katmandu, Nepal, proclaiming he is the Hindu god, Kalki, come to carry out the destruction of mankind to make way for a new race of man. Bound in full red leather with three raised bands on the spine and gilt lettering and decoration on the covers and spine. Moire silk end papers, a sewn-in ribbon bookmark and all text edges gilded. 320 pages on archival-grade paper, with illustrations by George H. Jones and a special note to members of Franklin Library's First Editions Society from Vidal. Boards show perhaps a touch of wear on lower edges, text is clean and unmarked, binding is tight and square. A very collectable copy of this Vidal work.
