Both volumes are fine in original color dust jackets, and housed in a blue slipcase which also houses the extra suite of plates with a brown satin pull (slipcase lightly rubbed at bottom, lightly sunned). Signed by the translator, Lore Segal, and the artist, Maurice Sendak, on a limitation leaf in volume 1.
Limited edition being #127 of 500 signed and numbered copies. For this beautiful edition of the Tales of Grimm, Lore Segal and Maurice Sendak jointly culled 27 of the original 210 stories in the original collection. Translated faithfully and without any alterations, this collection brings the grace and precision of Segal and Jarrell's prose to these famous stories. Including such standards as Hansel and Gretel, The Fisherman and His Wife, and The Frog King, this is a masterfully curated edition of the Grimm fairy tales we all know and love, magnificently captured in Sendak's intricate pen-and-ink illustrations, inspired by the work of Albrecht Durer. A modern masterpiece!
