Volume 2 and 3 are UK First Editions, First Printings. Hardcovers. Alluring 3 Volumes complete set that has been rebound in quarter black [goat] leather spines and JPatrician marbled boards. Two raised bands on spine with titles stamped in gilt, ornate gilt stamped design on raised bands, the printing year as well as the Volume number represented as a gilt ring stamped on lower spine. Custom end bands added using the same marbled paper as used for boards. Cream colored Hahnemueller Ingres endpapers. All top text block edges sanded to clean and/or remove publisher staining. Original maps are affixed to rear in each Volume. Maps are intact without tears or chips. (Volume 1) The Fellowship of the Ring: Houghton Mifflin Company; Boston, 1954. First UK Edition, First Printing. 416pp.Condition: A Near Fine, trace handling marks to text block, some age toning to pages, Volume 2 has a faint approx. 4-inch diagonal crease to bottom of few prelims, Volume 3 had bottom corner of page 407/408 missing which has been fixed with Japanese tissue. All three Dust wrappers are missing. Original cloth boards which are well worn and are in pieces, will be included upon shipping.A beautiful, unmarked and unique set. 8vo[octavo or approx. 6 x 9].
