Original covers show light edge wear with rubbing/light scuffing and soiling spots. Upper spine back-strip is torn off just above label. Spine label has tear. Tearing along cover hinges near ends. W. Strahan; T. Cadell in the Strand. Used - Good. Published in 1775. 1st Edition, 2nd Printing (some refer to as 2nd Edition) with 6 line errata. Fully-bound in leather (the binding has been skillfully re-backed.

Cadell, 1775 [2], 384pp, [2 errata], printed on laid paper, in later green morocco binding with gilt borders and thistles [gilt still bright], marbled endpapers, top edges gilt, inner dentelles, 5 raised bands on gilt decorated spine, silk page marker intact, binding and hinges tight. Errata page contains 12 lines; verso of D8 is correctly numbered page 48 in larger type; verso of U4 is numbered 226 instead of 296. Interior shows light foxing, first word on page 36 crossed out and correctly penned "quired", early signature penned on original ffp, dated '81.

Markwick was made a Fellow of the Linnaean Society in 1792. He was also known for his useful and pioneering work in phrenology, the study of when annual events happen in nature. He wrote several works on birds, plants and general zoology but most remained unpublished and in the hands of the Linnaean Society. Bound in contemporary calf, raised bands, red morocco spine label gilt, outer joints have been re-enforced, housed in a custom clamshell box. A clean bright copy of Johnson's travel with Boswell through Scotland. Later, Boswell himself wrote a companion volume Journal of a Tour to the Hebrides about his journey.
