Illustrated throughout with black-and-white reproductions of illustrations and photos, some folding out. Maps. Index. Cloth book mark bound in. Bound in indigo cloth with gilt lettering stamped on spine. In the illustrated dust jacket that shows light edge-wear. Number 1018 of an edition limited to 2000 copies. The first volume in the publisher's series "Bibliotheca Himalayica."

The author Sarat Chandra Das (1849-1917) and editor William Woodville Rockhill (1854-1914) were both notable to their contributions to the scholarship of Tibetan history. Dust jacket is now preserved in a clear, removable archival sleeve.
