Orig. published in 1933 under the author's pseudonym Antonio de Fierro Blanco, a "man of mystery" who claimed that his book was an autobiographical account of "One Year in the Life of Senor Don Juan Obrigon, Known During Past Years in the Three Californias as Juan Colorado and to the Indiada of the Same as The Flame..." This is the First Edition, First Printing, under the author's real name from the Riverside Press for Houghton Mifflin from 1955 (First, thus), in 295 pages with map endpapers + illustrations throughout the text by Alfredo Ramos Martinez & a Preface to the Second Edition by author Scott O'Dell. With green patterned cloth-covered boards ruled 7 lettered in darker green to front & spine, this hardcover small octavo is in Near Fine condition: exceptionally clean & bright, binding strong & straight, pages lightly tanned but completely unmarked save for small stamp in red to ffep. Corners mildly bumped. The unclipped DJ is VG: colorful & bright, with mild-moderate rubbing to extremities, heaviest along all edges of spine & corners; nicely protected in new clear mylar cover free!
