Edinburgh: Constable and Company & Longman,Hurst.Rees,Orme,and Brown, London, 1815, 1815. Hardcover. Good. aquatint plates [21 with pink background] + 2 folding tables + text illustrations [12].. TWO Volumes Octavo Gilt tan Diced leather with gilt spine titles and floral & key-pattern decoration, gilt panel rules to covers & gilt reverses & dentelles (tips worn more so to 2nd volume/ hinges heavily rubbed & some damage to head/foot of spine). All edges marbled [xvi] includes title + "notice" + Preface + half title] +382pp half Title + titlepage +360pp +directions to binder with "Works of Jonathan Swift" to verso. Endpapers rather browned, rest of paper only sl.tanned and book block neat and tight. 1st volume covers loose. *The author originally French spent more than 20 years in America and this book was intended for the AMERICAN market as well as the French. Having an English wife and travelling without the necessity of an occupation he was fortunate to be about to travel at will. He had introductions to many people he might not otherwise have met, because of his wife's aquaintances and was interested in not only scenery but the finances, politics and literature etc. He found courtesy and interst everywhere and found the country one of the happiest. There is an Appendix on Ireland in the second volume.
