New York: Harper & Brothers. Very Good with no dust jacket. 1863. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Original tan cloth boards show heavy rubbing, bumped on points with fraying to cloth at spine ends. Spine lettering faded, thin dark line of discoloration along spine edge. Faint dampstain bottom edge of endpapers only, light scattered foxing, previous owner's name front endpaper (Eliza Talcott? / Falcott). (Possibly this copy belonged to American missionary to Japan and Hawaii, Eliza Talcott). Pages a bit stiff, corners square and tightly bound. First edition copy of Kemble's work with "about" repeated on page 316. The controversial anti-slavery memoir describing Kemble's experiences and observations while living on plantations at Butler and St. Simons Island, Georgia.; MCN26934; 12mo 7" - 7½" tall; 337 pp .
