London: John Murray, 1870. Hardcover. Good. Stated "New Edition" on the title page with the "Postscript" dated Feb. 1, 1860 at p. vii. Octavo, x+ 519 pp. with index. Occasional small engravings in the text. This copy is bound in a late 19th or early 20th century college prize binding, so stamped in gilt on the front board; raised spine hubs, marbled endpapers and edges of text block. The spine, which was once ornately decorated, is well rubbed and has a snag to the rear corner of the head; the boards are also scuffed and worn about the egdes. Calligraphy owner's name and Christmas 1872 notation second front blank. Though the text block is tight and clean (tiny stain top outer corner of blanks and title page, a rebinding candidate.
