Boards a covered with an interesting texture, a burlap pattern in allusion to the wrapping of the plague victims. Near Fine/Very Good+ slipcase. Being Observations or Memorials of the most Remarkable Occurrences, both Public and Private, which happened in London during the last Great Visitation in 1665. And written by a Citizen who continued all the while in London. Now newly Introduced to the Public by James Sutherland, of London & Berkshire, and Embellished with notable Illustrations by Signor Gnoli, of Rome. For A Journal of the Plague Year, Domenico Gnoli created eighth full-page paintings, each of them dominated by a somber, plaque-ridden tone--chartreuse, mulberry, olive, purple-- that captures the horror and madness of that terrible period. The Heritage Press, The George Macy Companies, Inc. N.Y. , 1968. With SANDGLASS. Book Near Fine, Slip Case Better than Very Good, one small spot top of spine. Clean no soiling, no writing. no yellowing of paper. Printing is by The New York Lithographing Company- The Paper for this printing is a cream -white vellum, specially made for "A Journal of the Plague Year" by The Beckett Paper Company of Hamilton Ohio. Regarding the binding it is worth noting the interesting texture covering the boards, it is a burlap pattern in allusion to the wrappings of the plague victims, but dyed to harmonize with the tones of Gnoli's illustrations. Very interesting reading and a SUPERB and UNIQUE Gift.
