About This Item
New York, NY: Scribner, 1994 Scribner, New York. 1994. Hardcover. Facsimile reproduction of The Macmillan 8th printing of the 1970 edition. Light blue paper over boards and spine with bright white lettering on spine and embossed seagull on boards. Pictorial seagull end papers. 93 pp 8vo. This is the story of a young seagull with big ambitions. He pushes himself to fly at tremendous speeds, eventually reaching a higher plane of perfection. Later, he returns to his flock to teach the ambitious among them what he knows. In Part I, he defies his parents and spends all his time practicing flying. He repudiates their belief that a seagull's sole purpose is to eat and instead studies the mechanics of flight. He's banished because of this. In Part II, he reaches a higher plane of existence, where he studies with the elder gull Chiang, who teaches him the secrets to "perfect speed." In Part III, he returns to his flock to teach them what he has learned. A classic story of flight and self-improvement. A clean very presentable copy.

Though the inspiring tale of one seagull who realises there is so much more to flying than most realise, this book puts beautifully into words and stunning pictures our largely untapped potential hidden within the gift of life.
