Hardcover. 100 pages; containing an Account of all the Best Places for Angling, as well as the tackle, baits, & other requisites to form an Expert Angler with a correct description of tying hooks, making artificial flies, repairing tackle etc. Contents clean and secure in original binding of green cloth spine and brown boards, gilt letters at spine. OCLC: 37008788 Former owner's attractive bookplate [Bernard S. Horne] on front endpaper depicting two crossed fishing poles, a fish, two images of a man fishing and a hunting dog. Illustrated frontispiece showing "The Jolly Angler" fishing at Carthagena Weir. Engraved title page showing fishing equipment. Illustrated with engravings throughout of fish, flies, tackle, etc. Bernard Shea Horne (1905-1970) was retired board chairman of the Joseph Home Company department store founded by his grandfather in Pittsburg, an ardent fisherman and a noted authority on Izaak Walton. Mr. Horne assembled the largest known private collection of angling works by Izaak Walton and authored a definitive bibliography of the 385 editions of "The Compleat Angler.” His collection of editions of The Compleat Angler was gifted to the University of Pittsburgh in 1973 by Mrs. Horne as a memorial to her late husband. His father Bernard S. Horne (Sr.) retired from the family business when he was in his thirties to pursue his interests in golf and photography. .
