A novel published in the latter part of Trollope's career, this work tells the tale of the titular character, who stands trial on the charge of bigamy on the testimony of his former mistress.The first edition of this work.Complete in three volumes, in the publisher's original cloth, retaining the original half titles. First serialized in Blackwood's magazine between April 1878 and June 1879, Sadleir notes that this work 'was never reprinted in its original three-volume form' after the first edition. Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was a Victorian writer, most famous for his series 'The Chronicles of Barsetshire', which made acute observations of Victorian life. He wrote on political, social, gender, and other topical themes. Containing a previous owner's light ink signature to the half title page in each volume, undated. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Externally, shelf wear to the boards and bumping to the heads and tails of the spines and extremities. Some fading to the cloth binding.
