New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1892. "Max O'Rell" was the pseudonym adopted by Leon Paul Blouet (1847-1903). Originally published in France in 1883, his essay and observations on British character and Empire became an international best-seller. This is the Authorized Edition, "Translated from the French Under the Supervision of the Author." First Edition Thus. Bright red pebbled cloth binding, ruled, with titling in gilt on the spine and front cover. Clean text; 243 pages, marbled on the ends. Tiny bookseller label on front paste-down; some contemporary (1895) notes on the last page. Spine a bit faded; some mild rubbing at the margins. A solid copy.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
