The Jest Book. The Choicest Anecdotes and Sayings by Mark Lemon. Published by Macmillan & Co., London., 1864. First Edition, First Thousand Printing. Golden Treasury Series. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall., 361pp. with tissue guarded title illustrations; index, publisher's advertisement at end. Forest green boards with gilt panelled boards, gilt medallion front board and blindstamped to rear, gilt spine titles, dark brown endpapers. In very nice condition: penciled name to half-title page with light toning to text block; otherwise, contents are in clean, unmarked condition. Contemporaneous small bookseller label: James Maclehose, Bookseller, 61 St. Vincent Street, Glasgow. Binding is firm, boards have some wear with rubbing to edges, most pronounced front lower corner.
