Book Description: The history of Jekyll Island is one of the most colorful and interesting stories of the Golden Isles of Georgia. This beautiful semi-tropical island has been the hunting grounds of the Indians, the site of a Spanish mission, and played a vital part in the early history of the Colony of Georgia. The island was caught in the tides of the Revolutionary War and the Civil War and suffered as the rest of the country from the devastations of conflict. Here was a fine French plantation and then the famous resort club of the Gilded Age millionaires, The Jekyll Island Club. Included are many photographs of the island's historic buildings and architecture.
