Smith, Elder & Co., 1899. Hardcover. Acceptable. 1899. New Edition. 468 pages. No dust jacket. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Rough-cut pages with expected creasing and chipping. Minor black ink to fore edge. Moderate cracking and creasing to gutters and hinges, exposing netting and causing some looseness to binding but pages remain attached. Light thumb marking, foxing and noticeable tanning to pages. More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Book is noticeably bowed and forward leaning with visible tanning, staining and scuffing overall. Spine has heavier tanning with soft crushing to ends. Lettering remains bright and clear.
Synopsis
Jane Eyre is a famous and influential novel by English writer Charlotte Brontë. It was published in London, England in 1847 by Smith, Elder & Co. with the title Jane Eyre. An Autobiography under the pen name "Currer Bell". Harper & Brothers of New York came out with the American edition in 1848. It begins, "There was no possibility of taking a walk that day."
