About This Item
Tehran, Iran: Issargaran Association of Culture & Art, 1995. First Edition. Signed by actor George Lazenby who has also written 007 who played James Bond in the 1969 motion picture adaptation of the novel, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. Laid in is an original color photograph of Lazenby with the book taken at the time of his signing. Written in the Iranian language of Farsi. Paperbound. Some moisture stains to paper covers else very good solid copy. A large 444 page encyclopedic book on Ian Fleming and his creation James Bond. With 177 photographic illustrations. Starting with a look at English spy fiction and Fleming’s contemporary spy writers, the book discusses the Bond novels. The Bond films are written about at great length with extensive biographies of the actors who have played Bond girls, villains, as well as the writers, directors, and producers behind the motion pictures. Printed after the Iranian Revolution and with the greatly strained tensions with the Islamic state with the West. Since there are no diplomatic relations with the U.S.A., this is a very unusual book dealing with an American produced film series with many Americans featured throughout the volume. The character of James Bond representing so much of the western world that is in conflict with the Islamic tradition, it is surprising that this book was allowed to be published. A rare volume in the West and even scarce in Iran.
