About This Item
n.p., 1969. First Edition. Broadside. Broadside, 13 x 7 inches. James Rector was an onlooker from a rooftop, watching the rioting concerning People's Park, May 15, 1969. After protesters on the roof of a nearby building threw bricks or sharpened pieces of metal at police, deputies of the Alameda County Sheriff fired buckshot at the people on the roof of the Telegraph Repertory Cinema. Rector was fatally injured. This is McClure's poem of protest in response to the incident at the height of 1960s countercultural upheaval. McClure's name is not to be found, nor any reference to year, publisher, printer, etc. The poem was later reprinted in his book 'September Blackberries'. First edition (first printing). Very good copy with slight foxing.
