About This Item

Philadelphia: John C. Winston, 1914. Cloth. Very Good Plus. Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Folkard, Charles. Philadelphia: John C. Winston, 1914. First thus. Winston's attractive American version of the illustrating of the 1837 verse tale by Thomas Ingoldsby [R.H.Barham]. An initially mischievous, but then pious and eventually canonized, crow carries the moral of the tale. Illustrated with 12 tipped-in color plates by Charles Folkard. Folio [about 13.3" x 10.4"], purple beveled cloth with elaborate gilt cover device, fine paper uncut, unpaginated. Original red ribbon fragments laid in. Typical moderate fading to the purple cloth, light soiling, minor endpaper foxing, first plate has a small tear at the corner, but is complete. A very sharp, solid, better than Very Good example. See scan. l-g3
