About This Item

Philadelphia: Macrae Smith Company, 1970. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. The interior of the book is clean and fresh, with no signatures, marks or signs of previous use. The top edge of the text block has remainder stippling. The illustrated covers (repeat the artwork of the dust jacket) are also in very good condition, with minor wear at tips and corners. The dust jacket is in slightly less than very good condition. The top right-hand corner of the flap has been clipped (but still bears the original price of $3.79), the spine has darkened, and there is a nick of paper missing from the back panel. The front panel has a publisher's sticker, "Macrae Smith Library Edition." This means that the book has sturdier binding, than the trade edition, but this copy has never been owned by a library. Synopsis: "One of Queen Victoria's most loyal subjects is Jack Wookey, a fledgling sailor ... as luck would have it, though, on his first voyage the lad is expelled from the service in disgrace because he has unwittingly served the captain with a dose of salts instead of sugar with his tea... But wait -- fate may have other designs up her sleeve. It happens (as things seldom do) that a rascally, red-haired knave of a sailor named Mick Muxlow skipped ship as soon as it reached Bombay and has robbed the British Government House of a black pearl necklace that was intended as a gift for the Queen ... The Royal Navy is in an uproar. Now, if our Jack could catch that bounder singlehanded, anyone can readily see, as he does, that he could burnish his own tarnished image, serve his monarch magnificently, and be a hero besides.
