About This Item

Palais-Royal, Paris: Librairie Illustrée / Librairie E. Dentu [no date]. (hardcover) 264pp; 211pp. Good. Undated (late-19th c). Two (2) volumes. Tall 8vo. Uniform binding. Red quarter-leather over marbled boards; spine in five compartments, raised bands; lettered and decorated in gilt. Runners rubbed; corners raw. Apparent period institutional re-bind, with the distinctive marbled boards and trimmed, speckled edges. Marbled EPs. Vol.I starting at front and rear gutters; pp.1 / 2 and first illustration loose, laid-in; edgewear to loose leaves. Else binding entirely secure; tight. Vol.II similarly starting at front and rear gutters; early signs at p.80. Likewise, else tight and square. The ffep of vol.II was once apparently stuck to the front-pastedown; surface of EP torn when separated. Internally clean. Illustrated throughout with engravings by L. Montégut; frontispiece. Text in French. With blemishes duly noted, this remains an attractive set at an accessible price for both volumes..
