About This Item

London: The Bodley Head, 1982. First edition of Greene's pamphlet on the civic government's role in organized crime in Nice which provoked a libel lawsuit. Octavo, original wrappers, illustrated, text in English and French. In near fine condition. One of Graham Greene's final works, J'Accuse: The Dark Side of Nice served as a declaration accusing Nice's upper levels of city government of protecting organized crime and corruption. The pamphlet provoked a libel lawsuit that Greene lost; but he was vindicated after his death when, in 1994, the former mayor of Nice, Jacques Medecin, was imprisoned for corruption and associated crimes.
