About This Item

MP3 Audio CD. One of the best and weirdest of all Allan Quatermain stories, The Ivory Child by H. Rider Haggard is the novel that allegedly inspired George Lucas to create the character of Indiana Jones and the story of the Raiders of the Lost Ark ? if you love that classic story of heroism, mysticism and adventure, you will certainly love The Ivory Child as well.

The quest that Quatermain initially sets on at the beginning of the story is to find his friend?s wife who has disappeared and is thought to be the secret priestess of a remote African tribe, but as he follows the lady?s tracks, he gets involved in all sorts of other adventures, among them into a tribal war. He encounters human and divine adversaries ? he must face not only tribal warriors, but a malevolent elephant god, a snake monster - and the weather does not seem to be on his side either ? he must find his out of an enormous hailstorm and he must also endure a sandstorm once.

Besides heroism and action, the story does not lack humorous elements and funny characters either ? Quatermain?s sidekick never fails to make the reader smile, sometimes getting involved in situations that will make you laugh out loud.

Many critics and fans of Haggard consider The Ivory Child to be even more adventurous and film-like than his other well-known stories, such as King Solomon?s Mines or Allan and the Holy Flower. The novel blends into the series perfectly. Many think it is more enjoyable if you have previously read the Holy Flower, but it works perfectly on its own as well.

Therefore, if you are interested in a superb adventure story that has humor, romance, great battle scenes, lots of magic and exciting characters, The Ivory Child will enchant you.
