Quite scarce. 2nd edition. 7 x 4-3/4 inches. iv, [1]-717pp. Bound in full calf with four raised bands, red label and title in gilt. Old staining on pages, otherwise good condition.

The New Testament of our Lord Jesus Christ: Translated into the Language of the Ojibwa Indians.

Language: Chipewyan, prefatory material in English : text in Chippewa.

Sabin 57091

With attached original 4 x 6-1/4 inches photograph cabinet card of Rev. S. G. (Sela Goodrich) Wright (1816-1906) in at end of book. Wright was a linguistic scholar and a missionary "among the Ojibway Indians, in Northern Minnesota, at Leech Lake and Red Lake, for nearly fifty years."

1st edition was published in 1844 with (iv),643pp. 2nd edition, this one, published in 1856 with (iv)717pp. Third and fourth editions with (iv)717pp published in 1875 and 1928.

Translation attributed to Henry Blatchford (Pilling, Bibliography of the Algonquian languages, p. 52). Banks (2nd ed.), p. 141. Also by Sherman Hall, according to Darlow & Moule 3032.
