Barbèra, 1872 Hard cover 12mo, finely bound in half vellum over maroon cloth, with maroon leather title label applied to the spine with titles tooled in gold, xvi, 341pp., stated 6th edition. In Italian. Binding stamped signed Birdsall & Son, Northampton (England)on front pastedown. Engraved armorial bookplate of Pandeli Ralli, dated 1888 to front pastedown. Includes notes, a biography of the author, a general index and separate name index. **CONDITION: Very Good. Light scuffing to the spine label, minor soiling to the vellum. Cover slightly bowed. Prelims lightly foxed and text moderately age-toned especially at outer edge of pages. Otherwise clean, usable and with "vintage appeal." **The book's original owner, Pandeli Toumazis Ralli (1845-1928) was a French-born, Greek-British politician. He was a second generation member of the hugely successful Ralli Brothers, famously diversified global merchants and bankers in Victorian Britain, with trade spanning the Empire, the United States, Russia and the Mediterranean. Pandelli was educated at Cambridge, became a journalist, and for ten years was a Liberal MP in Parliament, living in Belgravia Square. He is said to have been a mentor to the young Lord Kitchener, who would stay with him.**Pietro Ravasio's annotated version of Machievelli's famous work on the Renaissance history of Florence under the Medici family ran to many editions and was meant for students.
