New York: Dutton, 1997. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First edition. Octavo, cloth-backed boards, dust jacket illustrated by Jane Ray. Spine a little bit cocked, else fine copy. Presentation copy, inscribed by Alexander to his friends: "For Carl and B. [Karsch], with all fondest thoughts from Lloyd, 31 May 1997". Alexander and Carl Karsch worked together in a bank in the 1950s; they remained life-long friends. Accompanied by a large color poster, 13" x 19", reproducing the front cover of the book, inscribed by Alexander to the Karschs: "For Carl and B., with fond thoughts from Lloyd 3/22/97

Synopsis

When Tamar, the young king of Sundari, loses a dice game, he loses everything--his kingdom, its riches, and even the right to call his life his own.
