"He was a popular and versatile member; he could make a good speech; when he had delivered several speeches he turned on to his other great gift, that of rendering Irish songs and recitations. He was ready to do anything that was festive and amusing and interesting and Irish; so that John Valentine became a household word among all the members of his race. He has written in the following pages some of his experiences; they are modest, simple and dramatic; they deserve a reading by the historical student as well as the man in the street, as a truthful and picturesque record of one of the many forces which have put Home Rule among the accomplished facts of our contemporary history" - from the Foreword by T. P. O'Connor. Foreword by T. P. O'Connor. Locale: Ireland. (History--Ireland, Political Activism--Ireland, Politics--Ireland).
