Denman was a licentiate in midwifery of the College of Physicians and honorary member of the Royal Medical Society at Edinburgh.This is Denman's major work, one of the most important text-books on the subject in its time. "A lucid, philosophical work, still to be read with advantage."Through his writings and teaching, Thomas Denman wielded a greater influence upon British midwifery than that of any of his predecessors with the exception of Smellie.
