About This Item
Poughkeepsie: Paraclete Potter, 1813 Bound in full calf leather, this early Poughkeepsie imprint shows all the charm of age in a better than usual condition for a book of this age. The leather, while well worn, is clean and bright with the gilt bands on the spine still quite visible. While perusing the book I found it quite interesting for its anti-slavery stance in its selected writing and its emphasis on qualities such as compassion, humility and tolerance. [If only these attributes were taught in this day and age]. From the front endpapers I find a Henry Fowler was the owner of this book in 1815. There is a faint, intermittent tide line and the rear endpaper is mostly gone, otherwise this book is in much better condition than is usually found for a school book of this age.
