Part 2 only. xvi, 336pp. Laminated orange paper-covered heavy card covers, black titles to front and spine. Fourteen black and white drawings, introducing each chapter. 8vo. Sun-faded spine, slightly bumped spine ends, lamination starting to crack at edges, lender's shelf number on spine. Text block edges lightly soiled and starting to tan. Endpapers lightly tanned. Lender's stamps, security device and markings on endpapers, copyright page and twice on page margins, else internally clean, neat, bright and tight. The author and his wife spent a day with each of these historians. He conducted the interviews while she draw life pictures of them. Historians included in Part II - Edward C Kirkland; Robert D Cross; C Vann Woodward: Ernest R May; George E Mowry; Arthur S Link; Robert K Murray; William E Leuchtenburg: Robert H Ferrell: Richard W Leopold; Robert L Heilbroner; Arthur M Schlesinger Jr; Alfred Kazin; David M Potter.
