Per the publisher's "Notes from the Editors" booklet (which is included), Mumford chose essays on diverse topics from his previous books and writings in order to ". . .introduce his work to a new generation of readers." With a drawn portrait of the author by Michael Deas. An entry in the publisher's 100 Greatest Masterpieces of American Literature series, issued in conjunction with the Bicentennial of the American Revolution. One of an unspecified number in a limited edition. --- Bound in full green bonded leather covers with four raised bands on spine. Spine titling, elaborate decorations to covers and spine, and textblock edges all in bright gilt. Interior leaves printed on high-quality papers. Green silk moire endpapers, with matching sewn-in satin ribbon placemarker. Volume lacks a dust jacket (as issued). --- An about-Near Fine copy: bright, tightly-bound and probably unread, though with a hint of sunning to edges of moire endpapers and faint scratches to gilding at textblock fore-edge.; Octavo - 8 to 9 in. tall; xvii, 585 pages .
