London: John Churchill, 1838. Hardcover. Good. First edition. xxxiv, 442, [8], catalogue of "Mr. Walker's Anthropological Works" on eight pages at the back. Illustrated with 8 engraved plates. Bound in contemporary quarter green morocco and marbled paper over boards, gilt spine, marbled endpapers, all edges marbled. Armorial bookplate on front pastedown. Small signature and ink stamp of the noted American psychologist Henry Guze (founder of the American Academy of Psychotherapists, the Society for Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and co-founder of the Society for the Scientific Study of Sex), on front fly leaf. Heavy rubbing to the joints and edges of the boards, else good or better with toning and light dampstain to the gutter at bottom of text block. A scarce copy of the first edition.
