Reviews
On Jan 4 2017, a reader said:
James Stephens had a lovely, lyrical writing style to start with. He was in Dublin during the 1916 Easter Rising and knew some of those who participated (and led the Rising, in some cases) though he did not know of their involvement until afterwards.
This account is from his day by day journal and tells what he sees in person and was told by others who had moved more about Dublin city.
What is even more interesting is his analysis of Ireland's position in the world, vis-a-vis the British Empire and potential relationships between those in Northern Ireland and those in the rest of the country. Since he was a non-Catholic living in Dublin the latter is especially interesting in view of the antagonism of the Northern Unionists to the concept of a united Ireland.
It is a very short book and extremely readable. I would recommend it highly.
