About This Item
New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1941. Good Plus / Good Minus. Quarto, 10.25 in. x 7.6 in. Unpaginated. Profusely illustrated in black ink with brown and blue highlighting. Red cloth boards with white and dark blue patriotic stripes and emblem and white title stamped to front and row of white stars stamped to back. White title to spine. Light rubbing to front board. Hinge split at book's half-way point, but mull is holding. Rubbing, several closed tears and creases to dustjacket edges and spine. One inch chip to base and sunning to dustjacket spine; one square inch surface tear to front of dustjacket. Price clipped. Protected in mylar. Laid in: Eight-page light gray stapled pamphlet, 9 in. x 6 in., regarding not spreading wartime secrets. Title reads: "A Personal Message to the Mothers, Wives, Fathers, Brothers, Sisters and Friends of Service Men from General Marshall... and Admiral King" with a message from J. Edgar Hoover, printed by the U.S. Government Printing Office in 1943. Light age toning and a couple creases to edge of pamphlet. At end of pamphlet is written: "Important! Only a limited number of these books has been printed and the entire quantity is being distributed, so please don't write for extra copies. Take good care of yours and pass it on."
