This book is about a young Jewish Woman who lived in Belgium during World War II. After the invasion of Nazi Germany, Helene risked her life to participate in the resistance disguised as a secretary in the office headquarters of the Gestapo. This book details some of her experiences there. She also testifies to some of the horrific times her fellow citizens had to endure. For example when she refers to "never [overcoming] the chronic terror of being recognized and hustled off to the dreaded cellars every time I set foot in the Gestapo Building." She bravely tells of the lengths she had to go to in her survival of her secret world. Her testimonies even made it un safe to reveal her true identity years after her work was published.
