About This Item
Taroona, TAS: Richard Lord and Partners, 1976. 1st ed.. Paperback tall narrow trade, very good condition, card covers, stapled, full-page black & white photos, edges lightly foxed, staples slightly rusted, covers & spine slightly rubbed, minor edgewear, owner's written name title page. 81 pp. Inscriptions from the Cemetery of the Port Arthur Penal Establishment 1830 - 1877. Today there are 76 headstones remaining on the Island, and, whilst many are in good condition, the others are damaged and unreadable. The readable parts of the inscriptions have been included in this book in the hope that they may help in identifying the missing details. Some of the inscriptions have been taken from old photos as the headstones were not on the Island when they did their recording. These have been included for completeness. The Port Arthur Burial Registers were searched, but only a few of these books remain and not all names could be found. Those that were found are noted.
