About This Item

A VERY RARE AND GENUINE DATE-STAMPED 1847 EDITION THAT IS NOW 177 YEARS OLD AND WELL-PRESERVED (PRE CIVIL WAR ERA)
INCLUDING AN INCREDIBLE COLLECTION ENGRAVINGS. PRINTED AND BOUND BY S. & J. BENTLEY, WILSON, AND FLEY, LONDON, ENGLAND
THIS EDITION FEATURES AN INCREDIBLE GOLD-STAMPED AND EMBOSSED GOTHIC FULL-LEATHER BIDDING
AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH, THIS IS THE ONLY 1847 I CAN TRACE WITH THIS EXCEPTIONAL BINDING
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT THE 1848, 1852, 1855, 1865, 1867, 1869, 1885, 1889, 1890, 1893, OR LATER PRINTING IT IS THE ORIGINAL 1847
JUST FOR AN AGE REFERENCE, THIS BOOK WAS PRINTED 14 YEARS BEFORE ABRAHAM LINCOLN BECAME PRESIDENT

This is an absolutely stunning all-original 1847 edition of these legendary tales. One look at the binding, and you don't need to be a book aficionado to realize it is exceptional. Beautifully embossed and gold stamped, this is an absolutely gorgeous edition, and the covers and spine are a work of bookbinding artwork. It is exceptionally rare and the only one I can trace from 1847 with these elaborate covers. They don't make books this good anymore, and I don't think they ever will. I would snag this one before it's gone. I had one of these some years back, and it sold quickly.

The Ingoldsby Legends, also known as The Ingoldsby Ghost Stories, is a collection of strange myths, legends, and supernatural tales written by English clergyman Richard Harris Barham. Barham wrote under the pseudonym Thomas Ingoldsby and published the collection in various editions. This particular one is a ghost on the web, and I have never seen another one like it. The Gothic-style covers only add to its hauntingly beautiful ambiance. The collection includes a wide range of stories, including ghostly encounters, medieval legends, historical events, and strange tales. It is a one-in-a-million book that has been well-kept for over 175 years.

The overall condition of this book is very good despite being printed nearly 177 years ago. It does have some of the typical aging attributes associated with a 19th-century volume, including some average age and shelf wear to the covers, but they still remain in exceptional condition. The interior pages are naturally age-toned and have old, authentic, warmed natural age toning; some contain age spots and time but are still in good condition. It is tightly bound (not shaky) and exceptionally well-preserved for its age—a lovely edition.
