Text and full page monochrome drawings by John Austen. Title page decorated with drawing of man and wife. Uncut. Top edge gold. Tall 8vo. Original vellum backed cloth binding, gold lettered. Original dust jacket, browned at edges with a slight tear and chipping. Hardbound. Limited Edition. Number 425 of only 850 copies. Very nice copy. This satirical work, and 'Ixion' - both by Disraeli, were first published in 1834 and "it is significant that though he later wrote more profound, more sustained works, never did he write anything more brilliant and witty than 'Ixion' and 'The Infernal Marriage'. The author's father, a learned bibliophile and erudite historian, thought they were his best work, and many a later critic has agreed with that judgement."
