Clean and unmarked. 295pp. A careful, detailed chronological account of the uprising of the Modoc Indians in the Lava Beds area of northeastern California. Led by Captain Jack, the Modoc band of 52 warriors was initially successful against 1000 US troops in one of the most incredible battles in the history of US-Indian warfare. Originally published in 1918, the author was a boy at the time, and a relative of Captain Jack. Illustrated with vintage photos.
