About This Item

Part of the Yale University Press 'Art in the Making' series. Published in association with The National Gallery of London, to accompany an exhibition which was held from November 1990 through April 1991. This large format hardcover volume examines the actual process that the leading artists of the Impressionism movement used in making their art. The authors examine such subjects as open-air painting, the Impressionist use of color, and the paint layers and surfaces of Impressionist paintings. Focusing in particular on the new types of pigments that had recently become available the authors show how this development helped to free artists from the constrains of the studio. Fifteen paintings from the National Gallery of London are examined using X-radiography, infra-red photography, and the analysis of paints and pigments.

The book is 225 pages, measuring 9" X 11". Sturdy bright blue cloth covered cover boards, with the title imprinted on the spine in gold. The cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased. Edges of the text block are clean.

As is the case with all titles from Yale University Press, this copy is printed on high quality glossy paper, bound in cloth covered boards, printed in Great Britain by Balding + Mansell. This copy shows very little wear. It is not a library discard, not a remainder copy. No writing on the text, no highlighting. The text is clean, the binding is tight and square. The dust jacket is entirely intact and is not clipped. No marks , no rips or tears to the dust jacket. As is the case with all of our listings, the attached photos are of the copy we have in our inventory, not stock photos. A beautiful, clean copy. We also have the paperback edition listed too. This will be mailed out in a sturdy box.

We want to make sure you receive your order in the best possible condition! Our preferred shipping method is USPS Media Mail. Recently, the USPS has added tracking to Media Mail , which has been a great addition to this service. If you do choose to have your order shipped "Expedited", my shipping cost may seem higher than expected. Some of our books are large format hardcovers that can cost quite a bit when shipped expedited. So I would like to make sure that I can cover the cost upfront. However, if the actual cost of expedited shipping is less than the charge, I will refund the difference!
