About This Item
London and New York: Academy Editions; St. Martin's Press, 1972. First American edition. Hardcover. Near fine/very good. 101pp. Slim quarto [30 cm] Black paper over boards, with only minor edgewear to the spine and covers. In a dust jacket, with fading to the spine and surrounding areas of the panels, as well as a bit of fading to the top edge of the front panel. From the dust jacket- "Over a hundred artists have illustrated Carroll's Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass since they were first published a century ago. These books have fascinated artists in the same way as they have appealed to readers and the treatment of Carroll's characters has varied from the surrealistic to the mundane. The very different approach taken by artists can be seen in this comprehensive collection, from Tenniel's inspired interpretation to Max Ernst's fragmented vision of the Mad Hatter's tea party.
