Gilt staining to top edge. Marbled endpapers. Condition notes: An excellent condition first edition, with the ownership inscription of one of the subjects of the work. Moderate wear to handsome boards/spine, with sun-fading to latter. Lower corners bumped, cracking beginning to extremities of each (exterior) hinge; a bump to center of fore-edge of boards, perhaps from a drop. Binding remains sound and square. A bold hand has inscribed, to the first blank page "F. A. Torrance/Worthington/Minn/Dec 3rd 1908". Torrance's biography - and that of his family - appears on p. 391. A rarity on the market.
