Yahudiliğin hemen her alanına dair yazdığı eserlerle büyük izler bırakan İbn Meymun'un en önemli eseri Mişne Tora'dır. Çevirisi yapılan elinizdeki eser, Mişne Tora'nın ilk kısmını oluşturan İlim Kitabı'dır (Sefer ha-Mada'). İlim Kitabı, beş bölümden oluşmaktadır. İlk bölüm, "Tora'nın Esaslarına Dair Hükümler" adında olup Yahudiliğin temel inanç esaslarına ayrılmıştır. İkinci bölüm, "Hasletler ile İlgili Hükümler" başlığını taşımakta ve insanda bulunması gereken güzel hasletlerden bahsetmektedir. Üçüncü bölüm, "Tora Eğitimi ile İlgili Hükümler" adıyla Tora öğreniminde takip edilecek usullere dair bilgiler vermektedir. "Putperestlik ile İlgili Hükümler ve Yahudi Olmayanlar ile İlgili Yasalar" başlıklı dördüncü bölümde putperestliğin ortaya çıkışı, putperestlerle ilişkiler ve putlarla ilgili hükümler işlenmektedir. Beşinci ve son bölüm, "Tövbe ile İlgili Hükümler" adıyla tövbenin önemi, makbul tövbenin nasıl olacağı, tövbeyi engelleyen ve geciktiren unsurlar ile özgür irade gibi hususlara ayrılmıştır. Yahudiliği, kendi kaynaklarından öğrenmenin önemi çerçevesinde bu çevirinin birincil kaynak olarak Yahudilikle ilgili araştırma yapanlara katkı sunacağı ümidindeyiz.
