Bumping to upper corners of rear half of text block. Dust jacket is edge worn, chipped to top edges, worn and soiled to rear cover. This absorbing account of the work of the International Geophysical Year incorporates the latest reports of the breakthroughs achieved by the most successful undertaking in the history of science, in which scientists of 67 nations pooled their knowledge and resources to study the earth and its environs. The result is " a new portrait of our planet.
